Das alte Haus

Interactive Communication System

This project was a concept for a museum to provide content about the development of an historical animal, called "coelacanth", in an interactive and interesting fashion. The result is a interactive microscope with an interface and hardware.

Construction

Our model consists of three stages that represent the different rock strata and time periods. There are three fossils on the steps. The focus is on the development of the extremities of the coelacanth. To get background information about the fossils, the viewer can interact with the microscope.

Interface

A low poly style interface was developed. The user can navigate through three different landscapes. The first menu item explains the bone structure of the coelacanth. In the second item, the viewer learns about the musculature of the fins. Finally, the third menu item shows how the coelacanth adapted to the life on land.

Navigation

In order to navigate in the interface, the viewer has to look through the eyepiece of the microscope. Now the microscope is pushed to the position of the respective fossil that is to be viewed. The interface for the selected menu item appears. He can then use the rotary control to navigate through the interface. There are three sub-items for each level. These can be adjusted using the three lenses below the microscope.
